SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION AREAS
VARIOUS / WELLINGTON / NEW ZEALAND

COMPLETED - 2003/4

Background Brief

There has always been a need for an efficient and attractive administration area in schools but available funding has prevented many schools achieving this.  When a school can upgrade this area their requirements are often similar.  To present an open and attractive reception, to provide a good working environment for staff, comfortable office space, good meeting areas and efficient service and ancillary spaces.

A distinctive and welcoming entry is created to suit the school culture and environment.
Concept

Creating an attractive and welcoming entry is always paramount in the needs of a school.  This often involves upgrading the exterior of the building and providing a waiting space sufficient for the cultural needs of the community.

The increased administration requirements of self governing schools often means the provision of a two person reception space is necessary.  The degree of openness of this space varies from school to school with some opting for a completely open environment and others requiring more security.  We have catered for the later with the use of folding or sliding reception desk doors to enable the space to be opened or closed as required.

Good connections, both visual and physical are required between the office and principal.  Often the reception will have secondary access for the pupils away from the main counter.

Behind the scenes, lots of easy access storage and different bench heights for children and adults
Result
We have completed many administration upgrades in a variety of schools.  All have led to increased efficiency for the staff and have created a more attractive and presentable public face for the school.
An alternative to the traditionally enclosed office, this school opted for an open environment for their reception and admin work area.
